CLASS DESCRIPTIONS


MSOD provides your dancer with a fun learning environment, while encouraging each dancer to strive for their personal best.
 

Dance Classes in MA


TINY FEET
AGES 18-24 MONTHS

Tiny Feet is for our youngest dancers age 18 months to 24 months and an adult partner. Children will learn dance basics, fun dance related activities, stretches and classroom etiquette in a fun environment. This is a 6-week program. Classes are 30 minutes in length.

 

CREATIVE MOVEMENT
AGES 2-3 YEARS

Our goal during these Creative Movement classes is to introduce the basics of dance and movements to your child while promoting fun and interaction with others. This class is an introduction to ballet, music, and tumbling. Classes are 30 minutes in length. Students do not need to be potty trained.

DRESS CODE: Students will wear ballet shoes (white for girls and black for boys).

 

PRE-SCHOOL I & II
AGES 3-4 YEARS

(Must be potty trained). Our goal during these Pre-School classes is to introduce the basics of dance and movements to your child while promoting fun and interaction with others. This class is an introduction to ballet and tap, as well as tumbling. Classes are 45 minutes in length.

DRESS CODE: Students will wear ballet and tap shoes (white for girls and black for boys).

 

KINDER COMBO
AGES 5-6 YEARS

While we continue to focus on the dance basics we will begin to develop more advanced skills in our fun and exciting environment. Classes are 1 hour in length.

DRESS CODE: Students will wear ballet and tap shoes (white for girls and black for boys).

 

BALLET
CLASS PLACEMENT BY AGE & ABILITY

Ballet is the foundation of dance. It teaches proper placement, alignment, balance technique and control. All of these elements are extremely important in any form of dance. Students focus on improving strength, control, and body positioning in barre, and center work, as well as learning all of the vocabulary and terminology of Ballet. Classes are 30 minutes in length.

DRESS CODE: Students will wear ballet shoes (flush color for girls and black for boys).

 

JAZZ
CLASS PLACEMENT BY AGE & ABILITY

Jazz is a fast-paced form of dance that involves many of the same concepts as ballet. This form of dance includes a variety of different skills and other technical aspects, and is paired with music that is popular and upbeat. Students focus on strength, technique and terminology. Classes are 30 minutes in length.

DRESS CODE: Students will wear Theatrical Jazz Boots (tan for girls and black for boys).

 

TAP
CLASS PLACEMENT BY AGE & ABILITY

Tap is all about rhythm! This exciting and challenging form of dance is executed by creating combinations of sounds with the shoes on your feet. Students focus on rhythm, timing, and coordination. Classes are 30 minutes in length.

DRESS CODE: Students will wear Bloch U-Shell Tap Shoes (tan for girls and black for boys).

 

HIP HOP
AGES 6 & UP

Hip Hop is the style most often seen on television and music videos. Movements are fast, funky and fun. Classes are 45 minutes in length.

DRESS CODE: Students will wear black and white Converse sneakers. High-top for Jr. and Sr. Hip Hop (no street shoes allowed).

 

CONTEMPORARY
OPEN TO 4th GRADE & UP

Contemporary is a style of expressive dance that combines modern jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. It connects the mind and body through fluid movements. Students must also be enrolled in a ballet class. Classes are 45 minutes in length. 

DRESS CODE: Students will wear Pirouette shoes (flush color).

 

CLASSICAL BALLET
AGES 8 & UP

Classical Ballet is for the serious-minded ballet student. This class promotes grace as well as disciplined technique. This weekly class should be taken in addition to a regular weekly ballet class. Classes are 1 hour in length. 

DRESS CODE: Black leotard, pink tights, hair in a bun, ballet skirt (optional).

 

POINTE
WITH DIRECTOR'S APPROVAL

Pointe is offered to those students who have mastered the knowledge and technique of ballet and are ready for the next level. Strength and control are extremely important in this dance form. Students will progress to pointe at the discretion of their teacher. Dancers must have had at least one year of Pre-Pointe and Classical Ballet to be considered. Classes are 30 minutes in length.

DRESS CODE: Students will wear pointe shoes.

 

DANCE COMPANY
OPEN TO 2nd GRADE & UP

Dance Company is offered to our students who would like a bit extra. This class concentrates on perfecting technique and higher-level dance skills. We begin with proper stretching exercises and continue to improve on form and skill each class. We will work with each child to bring out their best, while encouraging team effort, essential to any group.

A true commitment to dance is a must. Dancers must be enrolled in ballet, jazz and tap class. Classes are 1 1/2 hours - 2 hours in length and meet in addition to regular weekly classes.

DRESS CODE: In addition to their ballet, jazz and tap shoes, students will also wear black Theatrical Jazz Boots.

 

DANCE ENSEMBLE
OPEN TO 2nd GRADE & UP

Dance Ensemble is offered to students who would like to experience other performance opportunities outside of their regular dance classes and our annual recital without the bigger commitment of joining the Dance Company.

All Dance Ensemble members will have the opportunity to attend workshops, take master classes, and represent our studio at different types of local performances. Students must be enrolled in ballet, jazz and tap class. Classes are 1 hour in length.

DRESS CODE: In addition to their ballet, jazz and tap shoes, students will also wear black Theatrical Jazz Boots.

 

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING
AGES 8 & UP

This class is designed to improve strength, flexibility, as well as relaxation and mindfulness. The strength and conditioning class includes cardio and stretching, and will enhance your mind-body connection.
